Tricubes, via 70% owned EPNCR, was awarded the contract to develop a portable card acceptance device together with its on-board applications for the Malaysian Government Multipurpose Card (GMPC) project, the first nationwide implementation of an integrated identification and e-commerce application worldwide. "Smart" National Identity Cards were issued to Malaysian citizens, storing on a microchip the cardholder's fingerprint, driver license, passport, and personal health data. EPNCR developed the SMA (Secure Mobile Appliance) Enterprise 1020, a wireless handheld computer integrating a smart card reader and UPEK's TouchChip® biometric fingerprint sensor. Not only does this Card Acceptance Device authenticate cardholders, but it enables cardholders to securely store e-cash on their card.
