UPEK Joins Initiative for Open Authentication (OATH) as Coordinating Member

Membership reflects UPEK's strategic vision to deliver strong and open authentication for user and network access

Open Authentication (OATH)Berkeley, CAJune 5, 2006 – UPEK, Inc., the world's leading brand of biometric fingerprint security solutions, today announced that it has joined the Initiative for Open Authentication (OATH), a consortium of leading device, platform and security application companies, to contribute to a growing industry-wide vision of common authentication solutions for open, yet secure, network access. Participating at the coordinating member level, UPEK joins companies focused on open standards-based authentication, including AOL, IBM, Entrust, Verisign, and others.

“We are proud to be joining our peers, customers and other industry leaders in this effort to create an open platform of strong authentication standards,” stated Greg Goelz, UPEK vice president of marketing. “The rapid adoption of our biometric authentication solutions by leading PC and mobile device manufacturers emphasizes the growing need for a unified approach to open device management and we look forward to working with OATH and its member companies to develop the strongest authentication solutions possible for our customers on a global basis.”

“We are excited to welcome UPEK to OATH,” stated Don Malloy, director of business development at nCryptone and co-chair of OATH's Marketing Working Group. “With the growing adoption of biometrics as a preferred method of strong authentication for leading consumer and commercial manufacturers, UPEK’s membership reinforces the importance for broad adoption of open standards.”

UPEK biometric fingerprint authentication technology enables the only complete hardware and software biometric solution for the PC market, already adopted by leading notebook PC manufacturers including Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, Sony, NEC, Acer, ASUS and others.
